Oficio by Luiza Barroso and Quentin Vaulot

During the creative process many times we face piles of screwed up paper, squashed ideas that will not materialize because they might have been considered inadequate to the situation. But what if it's our understanding of the situation that is inadequate? What about trying to take one of these ideas and develop it just for the curiosity of knowing the result? In one of those screwed up and tossed papers, there might be just the answer for what we are looking for and can't find. The Ofício Workstation is a symbol of this freedom during the creative process. Allow yourself to dare, to think different, to change your point of view.

Ofício is inspired by the chaos existing during the beginning of the creative process that soon becomes clear and ordered, giving space to something new and consistent. The deconstructed surface on the left side symbolizes the birth and ebullition of the ideas, the mix of congruent and diverging information that gives space to the creativity (on the center of the table), that by its turn gives form to the ideas, organizes the thoughts and results in something ordered and stable, like the horizontal surface on the right end of the workspace.

This table is not only the poetic image of the creative process, but also it's the space where these ideas take place to develop and enrich themselves. For the beginning of the process, other than the bubbling ideas that come from all places, we need materials. Papers, sketchbooks, pencils, pens, gum, music, organized over the deconstructed surface on the left, or on the metallic net under the top, all of this stuff are the raw material of this process. When all of these elements get together, the ideas begin to take shape and then we need to refine them. This action takes place in the center of the workspace. Flat and ergonomic, that's the ideal surface to put your personal computer. Is that the end of the process? The right side of the table invites us to share the results, because any good idea deserves to be shared.

This project awarded first prize in the Salão Design Movelsul 2008, golden medal in the Idea Brasil Award and First Prize in the International Designer's Workstation Competition 2008.

Massimo Iosa Ghini: "Interesting aproach to the project"

Ralph Bremenkamp: "Bravo! An almost poetic approach. Chaos is a very important aspect in design- the beauty of an organized chaos- the coziness of the mess on my desk belongs to design as well as all the tools I need. The designer’s workstation as a piece of furniture that is not only useful but also inspirational"
