CM426 Merlin
The CM426 Merlin is a one-off automobile by designer Marijn van der Poll. The Merlin is a contemporary study of the least regulated race series ever to have existed, the Canadian American Challenge Cup. Inspired by the simple and strong design shapes of early seventies formula racers. The car was built on top of a self-supporting chassis powered by a rear mounted flat four cylinder engine. The body was constructed out of stainless steel sheets which were laser cut and welded to a steel sub frame. The outer skin was left bare strengthening the sculptural quality of the car. The CM426 merlin is a pilot oriented automobile, connected to its driver. A mass produced product reduced to one hand made object.
